Xpress Centres have built a strong relationship with Morrisons and have half a dozen sites where they have landed a combination of units. The Morrisons model is to introduce the automotive village, which can feature various different combinations of automotive related services. Portable Centres feature heavily in this solution making units for Xpress Centres, IN’n’OUT Centres and Wheel A&E. The implementation teams work with Morrisons to scope the opportunities and identify the most appropriate location in the store car park and then design the layout of the units and reconfiguration of the car park.

Xpress Centres original land agent was Tesco, who now have over 30 sites on Tesco land. Both parties gained a strong working relationship which led to a rapid roll-out of sites. The inti colour design and style initially incorporated Tesco’s colours, but more recently a more standard colour has been adopted wrapped in the Tesco branding. The sites are considered carefully to ensure that they are away from the main thoroughfares but remain in visible areas of the car parks & are sectioned off, with traffic reconfigured, along with all necessary hatching and bollards to protect consumers.

JW Smart provide non-structural repair services to their customer base, in this case Jaguar Land Rover in Tonbridge Wells, Kent. The units we build for JW Smart are more unique as they incorporate a tyre repair and spray area, in a slightly longer purposely designed non-structural repair unit. These provide JW Smart with the ability to repair wheels to vehicles on site for both the JLR dealer and their customers.  Landing of these units is a carefully planned operation. Often dealership sites are small with the majority of the land being required to promote the sale of new and used cars, therefore we needed to plan carefully and be innovative in the way we landed this centre. In the Tonbridge Wells example, the location was on the entrance to the service bays which made timing critical and the unit needed to be landed out of hours to enable the dealership to continue to service and maintain their customers vehicles. We delivered the unit very early in the morning and the work was then able to commence to consolidate the two elements and then activate the internal aspects. The majority of work was completed in 1 ½ days with minimal disruption to the centre.

The Wheel A&E Centre is a business in a box. Providing wheel damage rectification and painting services, as well as rectification of diamond cut alloy wheels. Working with our partner we build the units to their specific requirements which includes extraction. We also fit the unit with their equipment prior to delivery which allows a really simple installation as the unit is delivered by a Hy-ab and is landed and shimmied into place. There are various cases including Morrisons Automotive Village concept & also in car dealerships (as with JW Smart) that feature our team landing in very tight access areas.

IN’n’OUT Centres provide vehicle servicing and MOT’s,  this build at the time was our largest and most complex unit. It needed to allow for the portable centre to be positioned on a concrete base with a pit to enable a lift to be fitted and the mechanic to be able to access the vehicle from below. It also needed to allow for the installation of a rolling road and headlight alignment equipment to enable testing for MOTs. The unit is 12m long and combined 5.6m wide and has the height to allow for lifting cars for Class 4 MOTs to be performed.

The complete portable solution

Our building composition consists of exceptionally high quality materials which give our builds a high-end finish. However, they are designed to enable our clients to move them if they wish. Our solutions are often described as a business in a box, fully designed & built in our UK factory. We often assemble internal components and then deliver them to site in a completed manner. Depending on the size, our units are delivered via Hy-ab or Crane, perfectly positioned into place on skates. We can land on various different surfaces including specifically built concrete bases, tarmac and concrete car parks. We adjust the unit into place effectively & efficiently. Our JackPad solution also enables centre levelling, allowing us to be confident when arranging the landing of a portable centre. Depending on the unit size & specification, it takes our installation team on average 1-2 days on site to install a new centre.
